My training is in the Usui Reiki system. I have done some one on one attunements and teaching, but most of my experience is with hands on and distance healing. In traditional Reiki, the Reiki practictioner does not direct the universal life force healing energy that channels through him or her. I do this kind of healing, and it's wonderful, but I also do what I term Shamanic Healing. My teacher, Michael Soto, is what I condsider to be a shaman, and I am shamanic in my approach to healing as well. When I am working on a client, for example, I may see an aspect of that person that is disassociated from the whole, disconnected, and get the message that what I'm seeing needs to be reintegrated back into the whole. I've been trained in how to do things like this, and I also get information while I'm working on how to do things in a specific way for that specific client. Some Reiki trained people consider this all to be Reiki, but some make a distinction between Reiki and shamanic work; therefore, I felt it was important to explain here that I do both. I feel that I was led to my teacher because we are both shaman. I had tried other Reiki practioners before I met Michael, and they hadn't done much for me, even though they had done a great deal for other people (who recommended them highly). Michael did a great deal for me, and I intuitively knew that he was going to be my teacher when I met him. I think that's how one should choose a Reiki practioner and/or teahcer, through one's intuition.
